The Best Time to Be an Au Pair in Europe

Thinking about becoming an au pair in Europe, but not sure when to go? You’re not alone! Timing can really shape your experience — from the kinds of activities you’ll enjoy to how easy it is to meet new people. The good news? There’s no wrong time to start — just the time that fits you best.

Spring & Summer: Sunshine, Travel, and Lots of Fun

Spring and summer (March to August) are amazing times to become an au pair — especially if you’re doing this for the first time. The days are longer, the weather is warmer, and families are often more relaxed as school winds down and holidays begin.

Here’s what makes this time so special:

  • Plenty of outdoor playtime with the kids

  • Easy to make new friends (lots of au pairs start in summer!)

  • Festivals, weekend trips, and cultural events everywhere

  • A gentler start — families often have a slower summer rhythm

If you love sunshine, flexibility, and lots of social opportunities, this season is for you.

Autumn: Cozy Routines and Real Life

September to November is another great option — perfect if you love structure and want to dive into everyday family life. School is back in session, routines return, and your role as an au pair becomes a big support to the family.

Perks include:

  • More consistent daily schedule

  • Helping with homework and after-school fun

  • Beautiful autumn vibes and fewer tourists

Winter: Holidays, Heartwarming Moments & Snow (Maybe!)

Want something quieter and more cozy? Winter au pair experiences (December to February) can be truly magical — think holiday traditions, warm meals, and family bonding time. Bonus: you might even get to see a white Christmas!

So… When Should You Start?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer — it depends on your goals and personality. But no matter when you’re ready, auost is here to help you find the right time, right family, and right match.

Ready to start your journey? Your European au pair adventure is just a season away 🌍💫
