Summer has officially begun, and anyone with children or any au pair caring for them—knows what that means: the search for activities that are fun, engaging and educational is in full swing.

This year, many families are choosing to stay closer to home rather than fly, making local day trips more appealing than ever. While looking for exciting summer activities for children, we discovered DINOLAND at Katzenberg Castle. Our first thought was simple: how had we never heard of this place before?

After visiting, we can honestly say that it exceeded our expectations.

Spread across an impressive 40,000 square metres, DINOLAND is home to nearly 100 dinosaurs, many of them life-sized. From the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex to enormous plant-eating giants, the park allows families to explore the prehistoric world at their own pace.

One of the newest attractions is Brutus the Brachiosaurus, a towering dinosaur that visitors can even feed. For younger children especially, this interactive experience is likely to become one of the day’s biggest highlights.

The modernised Dino Cinema also brings the prehistoric world to life through entertaining, child-friendly presentations. Another special feature is Kathi, who teaches children fascinating dinosaur facts in a playful and interactive way. Her lively storytelling keeps young visitors engaged without making the experience feel like a traditional lesson.

The adventure can continue at home, too. Children can listen to the DINOLAND podcast, which features regular episodes filled with stories, discoveries and interesting facts about dinosaurs.

DINOLAND is much more than an outdoor exhibition. Children can climb, balance and explore the play structures, while the Flying Fox zip line adds an extra dose of excitement. On warm days, the water playground offers the perfect chance to cool down.

Young visitors can also try gold panning or step into the role of a palaeontologist at the research camp.

Many activities are included in the admission price. Families should plan at least three hours, although it is easy to spend most of the day exploring.
